When Heretics Rage

The American Catholic Council (ACC), a dissent group made up of folks from Call to Action, Women's Ordination Council, Voice of the Faithful, Dignity, and an assortment of other disgruntled cafeteria Catholics sent out a press release today. They should have waited until tomorrow since it seems so much like an April Fool's joke.

The release calls for a "day of prayer and fasting" on April 15 (tax day -- was that on purpose?) for their upcoming dissent fest in Detroit on Pentecost weekend. To whom are they praying one might well ask since what they call the "spirit of Vatican II" is actually the spirit of the world. Now who is the spirit of the world, eh? The same evil one who tempted Jesus in the desert.

And evil is exactly what is being perpetrated by ACC under the false teaching of the "spirit of Vatican II." The new translation of the Roman missal is a correction of one of those evils that saw liberals in ICEL (International Commision on English in the Liturgy) watering down the truths of the faith with bad translations that turned the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass into a community supper complete with folk groups and rock and roll bands.

Despite the corrections going on, the grey-haired dissenters are determined to resurrect the dissenting "spirit of Vatican II" to finish the job begun by Martin Luther, Calvin, and the other revolutionaries who wanted a human institution fashioned in the image and likeness of man. We've seen what that dissenting spirit accomplished: downgrading the Blessed Mother, throwing out Latin, implementing a wide range of banal songs for the pray and sway crowd. Perhaps the most egregious evil was raising uninformed individual conscience to the level of papal infallibility: every little heretic a pope in the pew! The rebellious  "spirit of Vatican II" is still clearly evident in the blather of these aging cafeteria Catholics who pick and choose the doctrines they like and throw out all the rest. Who is Jesus Christ to tell them what to do anyway? They will continue to do all they can to impose their immorality on the body of Christ.

Among the breakout sessions at ACC is one that explores, among other things, the "experience of women Roman Catholic Priests" (There is no such thing.) and the "experience of CORPUS married Catholic priests." CORPUS is a dissent group of renegade priests with no standing in the Church who left to marry, but want to have their cake and eat it too. Many rent themselves out for weddings and baptisms which are not recognized or recorded by the Church. Their list of concerns is the same old dissent from the 70s Call to Action meeting -- deja vu all over again.

A number of bishops have condemned ACC and we echo their voices. The "spirit of Vatican II" is like the evil spirits who invaded the Freeling home in the film, Poltergeist, and the dissenters are the fellow travellers who want to open the door and let them in.

So, by all means, faithful Catholics, pray and fast on April 15. Make your intention the exorcism of the American Catholic Council and the conversion of those participating in it.

They're Back

It's Time to Boot Fr. Mike Tegeder

Tevlin: Controversial priest's visit exposes rift in Catholic Church

When a priest publicly defies his bishop and essentially ridicules him in the media isn't it time to give him a disciplinary boot in the hindquarters? That's what Fr. Mike Tegeder needs and let's pray Archbishop John Nienstedt obliges.

Two weeks ago, the Catholic Media Coalition, a group of bloggers, writers, and Catholic organizations around the country, sent the archbishop a letter informing him of the upcoming event with the heretical Irish priest, Tony Flannery, who is also defying his bishop since he was "silenced."

These priests put their hands between their bishops' hands on ordination day and vowed to be obedient to them, but they have their own agenda - to "reform" the Church. And it's the same "reformation" Martin Luther wanted. We all know how that ended up.

So please pray that Archbishop Nienstedt will finally rein in this renegade pastor who is leading his people off the cliff. I've blogged about Fr. Tegeder before here and here.

And here's the letter we sent to the Archbishop. Can you pray a rosary for him today through the intercession of Our Lady, Queen of the Apostles? She is our 12-star general as Fr. Norman Weslin used to say.

Nabi sayeth: To understand the pain that has been inflicted on our people one must look deeply into the causes for such problems, most especially, at the training received by the seminarians who would one day become priests.

And while there are some good schools which are faithful to the Catholic Church’s teachings some have not been so faithful, some have rejected Catholic doctrine.

One of the seminaries used most often and for many years by the diocese in WV is located in Baltimore. And what did many of our seminarians encounter when they entered the doors of this institution in the 70-80’s?

• Women were permitted to take classes along with the seminarians.

• The Rosary was not prayed by the seminary community. If one was found to be praying the Rosary regularly one’s vocation could be called into question by the faculty evaluation committee. Yes, there were those whose use of the Rosary was called into question and they were labeled “too traditional” and not psychologically fit.

Now that the Synod is Over the Spin is On

Actually it started even before the Synod started with dissent groups all over the world writing letters and organizing their own alternative synod in Rome through Catholic Church Reform International (CCRI) formed in June 2013. CCRI is a coalition of over a hundred dissent groups around the world (CORPUS, Call to Action, We Are Church, Women's Ordination Conference, Roman Catholic Womenpriests USA, Voice of the Faithful, American Catholic Council, Loretto Women's Network, etc.). Although I know they are not particularly orthodox at the national level, I was surprised to see The National Council of Catholic Women (NCCW) included as a support group with a link to their president, Rebecca Woodhull I plan to contact my bishop on that one!

Pope Benedict's Address to the American Bishops

A group of American bishops is meeting this week on their ad limina visit to meet with Pope Benedict. In his address today he made it clear that Catholics have an obligation to involve themselves in the market place, including politics. He also stressed that radical secularism (and the Obama presidency is the epitome of radical secualrism) destroys Christian culture. Here is a segment of the pope's address with my comments in red:

The Church’s witness, then, is of its nature public [Catholics, don't just sit behind locked doors in the Church praying, but evangelize and act in the market place]: she seeks to convince by proposing rational arguments in the public square [Note the word "rational." Catholic truth is based on reason and appeals to those seeking truth. Those who don't care about truth will not listen, but truth-seekers will.] The legitimate separation of Church and State cannot be taken to mean that the Church must be silent on certain issues, nor that the State may choose not to engage, or be engaged by, the voices of committed believers in determining the values which will shape the future of the nation. [Don't let the State cow you into silence with the false separation argument. Fight it as the bigotry it is.]

In the light of these considerations, it is imperative that the entire Catholic community in the United States come to realize the grave threats to the Church’s public moral witness presented by a radical secularism which finds increasing expression in the political and cultural spheres. [The greatest threat to the Church in America today is the Obama administration. He wants to suppress the rights of Catholics and Christians to practice their faith in the public square. Fight despite the growing persecution.] The seriousness of these threats needs to be clearly appreciated at every level of ecclesial life. Of particular concern are certain attempts being made to limit that most cherished of American freedoms, the freedom of religion. Many of you have pointed out that concerted efforts have been made to deny the right of conscientious objection on the part of Catholic individuals and institutions with regard to cooperation in intrinsically evil practices. Others have spoken to me of a worrying tendency to reduce religious freedom to mere freedom of worship without guarantees of respect for freedom of conscience. [Catholics are being squeezed out of many occupations, especially health care. Even wedding photographers and caterers face the hobnailed boot of the Obama/Clinton/Sebelius tyranny.] 

Here once more we see the need for an engaged, articulate and well-formed Catholic laity endowed with a strong critical sense vis-à-vis the dominant culture and with the courage to counter a reductive secularism which would delegitimize the Church’s participation in public debate about the issues which are determining the future of American society. [Orthodox Catholic bloggers, take heart. You are part of the "articulate and well-formed Catholic laity" countering the "reductive secularism."] The preparation of committed lay leaders and the presentation of a convincing articulation of the Christian vision of man and society remain a primary task of the Church in your country; as essential components of the new evangelization, these concerns must shape the vision and goals of catechetical programs at every level. [Get rid of the marshmallow fluff and teach doctrine!] 

In this regard, I would mention with appreciation your efforts to maintain contacts with Catholics involved in political life and to help them understand their personal responsibility to offer public witness to their faith, especially with regard to the great moral issues of our time: respect for God’s gift of life, the protection of human dignity and the promotion of authentic human rights. [Keep the pressure on those pro-abort Catholics!] As the Council noted, and I wished to reiterate during my Pastoral Visit, respect for the just autonomy of the secular sphere must also take into consideration the truth that there is no realm of worldly affairs which can be withdrawn from the Creator and his dominion (cf. Gaudium et Spes, 36). [Obey God over man.] There can be no doubt that a more consistent witness on the part of America’s Catholics to their deepest convictions would make a major contribution to the renewal of society as a whole. [So all you dissident Catholics get with the program. Are you listening, Doug Kmiec et al?]

Termite Groups Sponsor Speaking Tour by Heretical Irish Priest

The American Catholic Council and their clique are always busy-busy, like termites, undermining the faith. Their latest exploit? A Catholic Tipping Point Tour featuring dissenting Irish priest, Tony Flannery who was silenced after refusing to sign a document affirming Church teachings. Here's how Fr. Tony's situation is described by the dissenters:

Fr.Tony has been ordered to remain silent and forbidden to minister as a priest because of his refusal to sign a document that violates his conscience: namely that women cannot be priests and that he accepts all Church stances on contraception, homosexuality, and refusal of the sacraments to people in second relationships. After a year during which he attempted to come to some accommodation with the Vatican without success, he has decided to take a public stance on the need for reform in the Church.

Oh, my goodness, fidelity to Catholic doctrine "violates [Fr. Tony's] conscience!"

We all hear about the influence of George Soros, but, personally, I had no idea of its extent. I knew of some of the organizations on this list and their links to Soros, but the magnitude is mind boggling. It shows how much influence an evil rich person can have on a society.

Just think! Pope Leo is gracious and welcoming to Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria, head of the Coptic Orthodox Church which has been in schism from Rome since the Council of Chalcedon in 451. He's welcome at the Vatican.

Archbishop Vigneron Warns Catholics to Avoid Heretics' Meeting in Detroit

In a strongly worded letter issues June 3rd, Archbishop Vigneron has warned his priests and flock to avoid the upcoming meeting of the American Catholic Council to be held this weekend in Detroit. The dissent fest of heretics on parade is filled with groups and speakers who  promote abortion, contraception, and the homosexual lifestyle -- all things they justify according to "primacy of conscience." The archbishop refused permission for the group to celebrate Mass and explained his reasons in the letter:

To confirm the legitimacy of what they had planned, the ACC had been asked to provide details regarding this liturgy. The response received was ambiguous, and there are good reasons for believing forbidden concelebration will take place by the laity and with those not in full communion with the Church.

According to LifeSite News:

Archbishop Vigneron emphasized that he has not given permission for the conference’s “Eucharistic Liturgy,” as required by Church law. He said that concelebrating in the liturgy may result in “dismissal from the clerical state.”

Wow! A bishop who isn't afraid to call evil evil! Thank you, Your Excellency!

The ACC is just one more gathering of the same old dissenters from Call to Action, Voice of the Faithful, Dignity, Women's Ordination Conference, etc. Their message is warmed over modernist claptrap condemned for over a century. Their "Catholic Bill of Rights" is a travesty claiming the right of all to engage in "ministerial leadership" whatever that means. Judging from past action, one has to presume that everybody can be a priest or that no priest is necessary because the laity can celebrate the Eucharist without one. The Bill of Rights also sanctifies "informed conscience" (never defined) which, to them, means throwing out whatever Church doctrines you don't happen to fancy and saying your conscience made you do it. They also demand the right to choose their own leaders. (Martin Luther clones would no doubt be high on the list.)
 
Let's face it. ACC is unrecognizable as Catholic because it isn't. And Archbishop Vigneron has unmasked them. Good for him!

Please pray in thanksgiving for a bishop who takes seriously his obligation to teach, sanctify, and rule in his diocese. And also pray for these poor deluded slaves of the evil one. When you shake your fist at the Church, you shake your fist at God.

On Sunday, August 21st I sent to our mailing list an email about how Catholic kids lose belief in God because the Catholic education establishment has essentially incorporated theories of origins such as cosmic and biological evolution that are incompatible with Catholic doctrine. As an example I cited Bishop Robert Barron's incoherent belief that accepts the speculations of atheists as scientific facts but "baptizes" them by saying that "God did it." These "theistic evolutionists" are vague about what exactly God did and when He did it. I quoted the question posed by Fr. Michael Chaberek in his book Aquinas and Evolution. He asked how it happened that at the beginning of the 20th century evolution theories were rejected by Popes and Vatican Congregations and at the end of the 20th century, although neither the evolution theory or Catholic doctrine had changed, evolution theory had become at the education level, a mainstream Catholic teaching. One reaction I got to last Sunday's email came from a person on this mailing list who understands the problem:

There is a lot of confusion and concern among orthodox Catholics concerning some of the statements and actions of Pope Francis since he began his pontificate. However, if we look at these by embracing the premises of the ever-evolving kenosis theology, they do make sense.

The Dissent Fest in Detroit - Priest Thumbs Nose at Bishop

When priests are ordained they put their hands between the bishop's and promise obedience. Of course, there are some situations where priests can legitimately disobey. Obviously a young priest would not owe obedience to a homosexual bishop who ordered him to engage in sodomy with him. Not only does a subordinate have the right to refuse obedience in such a situation, he has a moral obligation to disobey. An order to sin is immoral and must NEVER be obeyed.

But we aren't talking about that. Archbishop Allen Vigneron of Detroit was acting totally within his authority when he ordered the priests of his diocese NOT to be involved with the Mass at the American Catholic Council event held in Detroit last weekend. Fr. Bob Wurm (well named) a retired 78-year-old priest, did it anyway and made it clear that he doesn't think the bishop will do a thing about it.  Essentially he thumbed his nose at his bishop and dared him to do anything about it. According to the organizers, dozens of local priests and deacons attended the Mass, but they would say that. Liberal liars are as common as bedbugs in New York.

Whatever the truth of other clergy attending, Fr. Wurm participated for sure and I hope the Archbishop follows through on his threats and removes his faculties. We need faithful servants of God in the vineyard; not those who imitate Lucifer's non serviam.

I'd love to see photos from the Call to Holiness conference held the same weekend. My bet is it attracted a much broader spectrum of the Church. What is it with these heretical old geezers? Isn't age supposed to bring wisdom? They just appear ridiculous. See Fr. Z's post for some of the other silliness. I hate to say it, but the saying immediately jumped into my head, "There's no fool like an old fool." Pray for these folks to retrieve their sanity.

The Chutzpah of Heretics Never Ceases to Amaze Me

I guess it's not surprising that heretics are loaded with chutzpah! After all its definition is "unmitigated effrontery or impudence" and heretics certainly don't illustrate an iota of humility. But I'm always amazed to see how they rewrite prayers. You've seen it, of course. Changing the Our Father to Our Mother.  But heretics continue in their silliness and the American Catholic Council, heretics extraordinaire, has a rewritten Magnificat on their website that stimulates the gag reflex. I can't decide whether to laugh or weep:

The gift is not for the proud, for they have no room for it. [Well...she should know. There is no one prouder than one who thinks she can rewrite and improve on holy Scripture.]
The strong and self-sufficient ones don't have this awareness. [Got that right, lady!]

But those who know their emptiness can rejoice in Love's fullness. [Spoken as one who is totally full of herself!]
It's the Love that we are made for, the reason for our being.
It fills our inmost heart space and brings to birth in us, the Holy One. [Wow!...Well, as Jesus said, "If you love me, you will keep my commandments." In the meantime, these folks work to undermine many of the commandments especially those relating to love, marriage, and family. Pray for them! No heretics will get into heaven. But no one is beyond the grace of conversion even these proud, self-sufficient heretics.]

                                                                        

Sunday Meditation: The Blind Will See!

Today is Laetare Sunday. We are half way through Lent and rejoice to reflect on the sure knowledge of our rescue from sin and eternal death. The Gospel reading today is one of my favorites -- the story of the man born blind. Jesus doesn't heal him outright. He makes a paste with saliva and mud and sends the man to wash in the pool of Siloam. Why? Perhaps as a gift. The man didn't beg for a cure. The disciples used the man to ask Jesus a question about sin. Whose sin caused his blindness, his or his parents? Neither, Jesus answered. Bad things aren't necessarily a punishment for sin; sometimes they occur to allow God to show his power. And Jesus does just that, restoring sight to this man who did not ask for it.

But what about the person who does ask and does not receive a cure? Does that mean God isn't listening and doesn't care? No! Sometimes the biggest miracle is the cheerful acceptance of our misfortunes and offering them in atonement for our sins and the sins of others.

Blessed Margaret of Costello knew that. She was born blind and hunchbacked, shunned and abandoned by her parents. And yet she modelled cheerful abandonment to God's providence. When a woman she knew received news that she was going blind she despaired and begged Margaret, renowned for the power of her prayers, to ask God for a cure. Think of the irony of this wealthy woman, a member of the nobility, weeping and begging the poor little blind woman, who never had the use of her eyes, to pray for her sight to be restored. Margaret tried to convince her to accept her blindness as a gift to walk more closely with the Savior, but she could not. So Margaret prayed for her and the woman's sight returned. Perhaps had she accepted the loss of physical sight, she would have been particularly blessed with interior sight. It is something to ponder.

The blind man cured by Jesus had to act. Jesus sent him to the pool of Siloam to wash. And when he finished, he could see. He became a reproach to the Pharisees who questioned him over and over about who cured him. When he described Jesus as a prophet, the Pharisees rebuked him and called Jesus a sinner. You can almost hear the man, his sight restored, laughing in their faces as he asks has a sinner ever cured a man blind from birth? "If this man were not from God, he could never have done such a thing." They insult him and throw him out into the street. But Jesus, in a touching scene, seeks him out and asks, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?" And he responds, "Who is he, Sir, that I may believe in Him." Jesus reveals that He is the Messiah. "I do believe, Lord," replies this grateful and humble servant and he "bowed down to worship Him." (John 9)

How I love that blind man whose story shows us how eager Jesus is to seek us out and help us "to see." The Pharisees who overhear the conversation are indignant. Is Jesus calling them blind? To which he responds, "If you were blind there would be no sin in that. 'But we see,' you say, and your sin remains." We live among modern day blind Pharisees who claim to see. In fact, there is a Pharisees' conference meeting on Pentecost weekend to "reimagine" the Church in their own heretical image. They call themselves the American Catholic Council. Pray that the misguided among them will meet Jesus and have their sight restored. As for the malicious, many of their leaders, some demons are only driven out by prayer and fasting.

I'm praying today to have the faith of the blind man. Like the other blind man who sat at the gate calling, "Son of David, have pity on me." I want to respond to Jesus' question, "What do you want of Me?"  saying "Lord, that I may see...that I may see all those you put in my path and treat them as you would."

If you haven't been to Confession this Lent, it's not too late. Go now. It's the greatest cure for spiritual blindness.

Bishop Sheen in Rochester: The Alinsky Connection

In a 1974 Playboy interview Saul Alinsky said,
"If there is an afterlife, and I have anything to say
  about it, I will unreservedly choose to go to hell."

What can I say? The bloom is off the rose. I can still appreciate much of Fulton Sheen's work, but I can never read it again without a critical eye.  Learning about Sheen's Teilhard enthusiasm got me looking a little deeper into his social justice work. Stephanie Block, an expert on Alinsky community organizing, told me awhile back about Fulton Sheen's connections to Alinsky activities in Rochester. I didn't look into it at the time and forgot about it. It's disturbing to see that Sheen was an active enabler of Alinsky's radicalism. If he were alive today, I hope he would realize the error of some of his beliefs and actions and repudiate them. We'll never know. 

Would Sheen have supported a priest like Fr. Michael Pfleger in Chicago? I can't imagine it, but the priest he made his social justice guru, Fr. David Finks, sounds a lot like Pfleger who's even too much for liberal Cardinal Blase Cupich. Finks worked with the Alinsky organization FIGHT that targeted Kodak. During his tenure at the USCCB, he helped to create the notorious Catholic Campaign for Human Development which allowed Alinsky organizing groups (that support intrinsic evils condemned by the Church) to pick the pockets of the faithful. He later left the priesthood and married. And this was the man in whom Sheen put so much trust. It is disheartening to see how a man can be misled into undermining the good he does with their right hand, by the evil he supports with the left. But I don't intend to inter the good Sheen did with his bones. We have much to thank him for: his vigorous opposition to Communism, his constant urging for priests to make a daily holy hour, the excellence of so much of his writing, the conversions he fostered like Bella Dodd. Pray for Fulton Sheen and learn a little more about him in this 50 year old snapshot from Catholic Digest.

Living in LaLa Land with Lunatics! Call on St. Joseph, Terror of Demons

Well, actually, our overlords aren't lunatics, but minions of Lucifer. This morning, I learned that a Canadian priest who teaches at the SSPX seminary in Dillwyn, VA (St. Thomas Aquinas) is being deported, I think tomorrow. We know him because he occasionally offers Mass and hears Confessions at our chapel in Linden. The government flunkies won't allow him to renew his visa. Bishop Fellay, who lives at the seminary, is in the same boat, but his deportation is less imminent.

Think about that for a minute.

 The philosopher George Santayana once said, "Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it." In this 2009 interview with Catholic Family News, Randy Engel spotlighted the sexual revolution and the rise of the homosexual cabal and the powers behind it. Their success to the point that public schools are teaching children how to fornicate and engage in homosexual perversion is shocking, especially in view of the small number of homosexuals. It makes complete sense, however, when you see it as a strategy in the population control tool box.

To fight effectively it's important to understand how a thing came about. Tolkein teaches us that principle in The Lord of the Rings. St. Ignatius of Loyola in his meditation on the Two Standards shows us how to fight. We are called to be Christ's soldiers in the Church Militant. Fast and pray. Debasement of our sexual powers and the attack on the family may be the "one ring that rules them all!" Our Lady of Fatima chose three little "hobbit" children from the Shire of Fatima to fight the evil. Are we listening to her message? 2017 is an important year in this battle with the 100th anniversary of her apparition. Answer her call.

I've been thinking a lot about the pope and his papacy's impact on the Church, which any sensible person must recognize by now is a disaster. He undermines the faith, he aids and abets enemies of the Church, his off-the-cuff bombs lobbed on almost every plane ride create confusion and chaos. 

Horrors! (And I mean that literally.) He's a one man wrecking ball!

I think we could say the same thing about Francis that Churchill said about Lenin. Lenin returned to Russia like a "plague bacillus" to kill the monarchy. Pope Francis, injected into the Church by the St. Gallen's mafia, has infected us with the plague bacillus of modernism on steroids. He, of course, cannot "kill" the Church, but he seems to be trying his darnedest! We all need to pray and sacrifice for him, that's for sure.

In what is being hailed as a milestone in the ongoing progress toward Catholic-Lutheran unity, Pope Francis will celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation on October 31, in Lund, Sweden. At 2:00 pm, the pope will participate in an ecumenical prayer service in the Lutheran cathedral in Lund, where he will deliver a sermon aimed at strengthening ecumenical ties between the two religions.
