Defining the Difference between Democrats and Republicans

The joke below has been circulating on the internet, and is worth posting to give my conservative friends a laugh. There certainly isn't much to laugh at these days with liberalism destroying the country. Now some Democrats may take offense at the idea that they aren't hard-working and I acknowledge that I know many who are - good hard-working family folk, which leads me to believe they are really conservatives at heart. They just don't know it - yet.

What do they have in common with the Democrats in Congress? Not much. Most Democrats in Congress are lawyers. As Bruce Walker pointed out in a 2008 Article for American Thinker, the Democrats are the lawyers' party. "Every Democrat [presidential] nominee since 1984 went to law school (although Gore did not graduate.) Every Democrat vice presidential nominee since 1976, except for Lloyd Bentsen, went to law school. Look at the Democrat Party in Congress: the Majority Leader in each house is a lawyer." And most of the members are lawyers as well.

Compare that to the Republican party, Walker says. "The Republican Party is different. President Bush and Vice President Cheney were not lawyers, but businessmen. The leaders of the Republican Revolution were not lawyers. Newt Gingrich was a history professor; Tom Delay was an exterminator; and Dick Armey was an economist. House Minority Leader Boehner was a plastic manufacturer, not a lawyer. The former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist is a heart surgeon. Who was the last Republican president who was a lawyer? Gerald Ford, who left office thirty-one years ago and who barely won the Republican nomination as a sitting president, running against Ronald Reagan in 1976. The Republican Party is made up of real people doing real work."

Yup! That's why most business owners who actually make things and provide real services (other than those making money by feeding at the public trough) are conservative. Small business owners invariably support Republican principles because they enable business to prosper and grow offering jobs and security to American families. Those employed by government tend to be Democrats.

And after all that, if you still want to read the joke - here it is:

My dog sleeps about 20 hours a day. She has her food prepared for her. She can eat whenever she wants, 24/7/365. Her meals are provided at no cost to her. She visits the Dr. once a year for her checkup, and again during the year if any medical needs arise.

For this she pays nothing, and nothing is required of her. She lives in a nice neighborhood in a house that is much larger than she needs, but she is not required to do any upkeep. If she makes a mess, someone else cleans it up. She has her choice of luxurious places to sleep. She receives these accommodations absolutely free. She is living like a queen, and has absolutely no expenses whatsoever. All of her costs are picked up by others who go out and earn a living every day.

I was just thinking about all this, and suddenly it hit me like a brick in the head; my dog is a democrat.

  1. Mary Ann,

I seem to follow what Fr. Groeschel says about the two parties:

"The democrats are evil, and the republicans are stupid."

    Agree, concur.

  2. There is no difference in the two parties other than the name. They are the same side of the same coin. Power and the usurptation of authority is the only thing which matters to them.

  3. Wow, this is the most absurd thing I've ever read, second only to anything Rush Limbaugh has ever written. The "joke" was tasteless and the entire asenine entry left a bad taste in my tongue. I am not very keen of your perception of Democrats and Republicans. It lacks facts and all you do is base it on whatever you hear from your Conservative friends and family. If I were to believe everything I heard, I'd still believe in Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, the Boogyman, and that the Civil War was started because of jealousy, not slavery (that is the belief of the many Conservative Republicans I've encountered). Another point I'd like to bring up is that the quality and amount of work people do is not based on their political background, because I know MANY Republicans that are lazier than the dog you described in your joke. Being hardworking in this country is not a Conservative idea honey, it's an American one. Simply pointing the finger at Democrats, with no accuracy I might add, is not helpful or constructive. It only brings on more hatred and hostility towards our government. If that's your goal, then stop. This country does not need any more violence. What we should be doing is attempting to bring everyone together to cooperate with one another and grow strong enough to get back on top so the fruit of our labor can be rejoiced by everyone as AMERICANS not as Republicans or Democrats. Creating a hostile envoriment only produces hostile people.

  4. Thanks for the chuckle, Pablo. I might take you seriously except for your first sentence which exposed your liberalism. Certainly there are hard-working Democrats. We see that daily in Congress and the White House as Obama-Pelosi-Reid work day and night to accomplish a government takeover of the banks, the car industry, health care and just about everything else. There isn't any common ground for cooperation between constitutionalists and socialists.
