Play it again, Sam: The SSPX is NOT in Schism!

Read Maike Hickson's article at LifeSiteNews.

Pope Francis said SSPX priests ‘are not schismatics’: retired Swiss bishop

Here's a bit from the article:

Speaking about the crisis, Huonder says it was caused by a “cryptic moving away from Tradition, from the authentic teaching of the Church, both in the documents of the [Second Vatican] Council and in the ensuing magisterial documents and decisions.” This is why, according to the Swiss prelate, Archbishop Lefebvre “could not follow unreservedly the instructions and doctrinal statements of the Council and of the official church announcements that followed the Council.”

“His attitude was factually justified and entirely in line with the Faith of the Church,” Bishop Huonder concludes. “He should have been listened to more.” Accordingly, “the measure taken against him [by the Church’s hierarchy] was a grave injustice, because it is easy to prove that the Church’s government has moved away from Tradition.”

For Bishop Huonder, the SSPX is a “child of this crisis,” since its founder wanted to respond to this crisis, to defend the faith and help the “faithful who felt lost.” Many were “sheep without a shepherd,” and Archbishop Lefebvre was out to help the “salvation of souls, as well as the preservation of the purity of the Faith.” That Faith, Bishop Huonder explains, is the “path to salvation” and thus “must not be falsified.” For Archbishop Lefebvre, the principle was that one may not follow a pope when that pope follows liberal ideas, but at the same time, one always has to show respect for his office, according to the Swiss bishop.
From this principle, the prelate expounded that the SSPX and Archbishop Lefebvre “must be viewed and judged.”

Can we put this persistent slander to rest once and for all?

The SSPX is NOT IN SCHISM!

  1. The SSPX is in schism from Christ because its mot in schism from Rome.

  2. Your repetative mantra from the sedevacantist corner doesn't make it true. Why don't you and Debbie start a sedevacantist blog together instead of stalking mine.

  3. Because Francis said it? You've got to be kidding.

  4. Is sodomy, prostitution, transgenderism, abortion, birth control, suicide, fornication, divorce and remarriage, etc. okay too because Francis said it?

  5. These never-ending cries about the SSPX being in schism reek of the Saul Alinsky tactic where you keep repeating a lie and eventually it will stick.

  6. Anonymous, now you're just being ridiculous. But the fact is that even the devil is forced to tell the truth sometimes. He had to acknowledge Christ and did so again and again during Jesus' public life.

This bishop is obviously a truth-teller like Bishop Athanasius Schneider both of whom participated in the 2015 SSPX visitations. They are witnesses to the truth and they are the ones professing the validity of Archbishop Lefebvre's actions.

  7. Well someone take a poll of all the cardinals on the status of the sspx?

  8. Not interested in most of their opinions. Paglia, Cupich, Joseph Tobin, and their ilk? No thanks.

  9. Mary Ann, I've never said the SSPX was in schism. I have said their actions were schismatic as they disobeyed Pope/Rome, who they claim is the valid hierarchy of the Catholic Church. They determined their excomms were invalid. They determined Rome had "left the faith". They determined the NOM was a danger to the faith. They determined it was necessary to consecrate bishops and ordain priests in the old rites. Abp. Lefebvre and his society of "irregular canonical status" decided Rome was wrong. If the good archbishop can decide for himself what is and is not acceptable coming out of Rome; why can not a Cardinal Cupich? He took is in union with Rome.

  10. Debbie, Francis decides what is acceptable coming from heaven and Church teaching believing he can change it to fit his views that "the times/situation change" (same w/Cupich). That is the difference between Lefebvre and them. I believe this blogger is wrong to insist that the SSPX is not in schism when Paul VI removed Lefebvre's faculties and John Paul II excommunicated him. It is like saying that someone who blocks the entrance to an abortion clinic is obeying U.S. law (because they believe the F.A.C.E. act is unconstitutional) or saying that a man is a woman. There are doctrinal differences between SSPX and current hierarchy. This blogger is well aware of them. To try to paper over these differences while the souls of Christendom (entire dominion governed by the pope/the west" as she blogs above) are being lost to my mind makes this blogger complicit. Francis has also buried Bishop Tony as a Catholic and named a Roman plaza after Luther; God wills different religions and Jews, Muslims and Catholics worship the same God--even though Muslims and Jews deny the divinity of Christ. She wants to run with the foxes and hunt with the hounds. She has friends (including priests) in every traditional camp and doesn't want to lose them. However, to continue to go along w/this hierarchy, especially the priests, bishops and cardinals who go along w/Francis knowing he is an apostate and endangerment to souls, makes her an enemy of Jesus Christ and an endangerer of souls herself. The Russian Orthodox are definitely in schism, and the co-blogger here attends orthodox. Both seem to recommend Russia as a country we should move to because Putin is so moral. I really don't understand her reasoning (nor yours when your bishops derive from Thuc whom they decide where and when gives valid orders and themselves dogmatically declare who is not pope like the Dimond brothers). To my mind, the differences between the SSPX and the official Catholic hierarchy should be shouted from the roof tops so that everyone is aware of the differences and what has gone wrong with the West in their lifetime--while they still have a chance to repent and start living and professing the Catholic faith.

  11. Just to clarify. According to my moderation page, Anonymous 12:07 is responding to the long comment from Anonymous 8:57 to Debbie and not to the post itself.

Our Holy Father Francis has not declared that the SSPX is in schism from Rome and the SSPX has not declared itself in schism from Christ.

Or Lord and Savior Jesus Christ spoke of unity many times. He did not mention the Latin Mass. Perhaps we should seek unity, not disunity, in Christ?

    God bless
