Funeral Today: Always a Good Time to Reflect on What's Really Important

This has been a summer of funerals. Today was our fourth in just a few short months. What was particularly memorable at today's funeral was one son's wonderful "memorial" to his father near the end of Mass. It wasn't the typical eulogy about all the great things Dad accomplished. He gave a very brief testimonial of how his Dad's faith and fidelity brought him back to the Church. He called himself a "prodigal son" but testified to his dad's never wavering in the faith. I couldn't help noticing at Communion that only about half the family went up to receive. Later I was talking to someone who said the mom told him her husband offered all his suffering that his children would return to the faith. I felt like that son's testimonial was a spark that might reignite the flame of faith in some of his relatives.

I received this email today from the Center for Medical Progress. Let's try to get this message to go viral. Planned Parenthood must not be allowed to get away with the murder of the unborn and their illegal profiteering on the sale of baby body parts. Please forgive the generic nature of this message. However I have just learned that many people throughout the nation (over 60%) have not heard of or even seen the outrageous Planned Parenthood videos detailing the sale of human body parts and the violations of federal law.

The mainstream media has put out a blackout on the story and there have been no reports for over a month despite the 10 video releases showing the appalling behavior of Planned Parenthood executives. The latest release was this week.

Many people think that this one billion dollar abortion organization should receive no federal tax dollars.

However the media is already spiking the story claiming that Planned Parenthood has done no wrong.

This purpose of this email is simple.

Good News for Good Handwriters

It can make you smarter: "cursive writing has been shown to improve left-right brain synergy and even promote the brain's language and memory functions."

Not only that, but it's beautiful. I like writing on a keyboard. I can probably think and write more quickly on my computer than on a legal pad. But I wouldn't even consider typing a thank you or sympathy note and every card I write (including the several hundred Christmas cards I send) gets a personal note. If your children aren't learning cursive in school teach them at home. One of Ghandi's big regrets (He describes it in his autobiography) was never developing beautiful handwriting.

Keep cursive alive. Send a letter or card with a note in cursive today (unless you are writing to a first or second grade student).

Have a Little Cake and Coffee at the Death Cafe

A friend sent me an email earlier today saying she'd seen a sign in a local coffee shop in Berryville advertising a "death cafe." Yes, you read that right. It's the latest thing. Get together over coffee and cake and talk about death. One promoter of these events says she's "passionate about death."

The founder of the Death Cafe, Bernard Crettaz, organized the first one in 2004. He wanted to remove what he described as the "tyrannical silence" around the topic of death. Crettaz also wanted to renew the pagan tradition of the "funeral feast" in which "the living would renew their bonds while letting go of what weighed on their hearts." The tradition of the funeral feast has some bizarre elements and in some cultures includes animal sacrifice and practices to prevent the spirit of the dead from haunting the living.

Yes, homosexual behavior is dangerous. Ask some of the survivors who have watched close friends die from AIDS, Syphilis, and other horrible diseases. Talk to those who have suffered through reconstructive surgery to repair bowels damaged by repeated anal sex.

The Synod on the Family and the Crisis in the Church

Watch this important video. It points out how important the upcoming synod is. Many mystics predicted the assault on the family and this synod, if it undermines the indissolubility of marriage, will be promoting heresy. Watch this and pray. Pray especially for the brave bishops of the Church who are not fleeing from the wolves but facing them down. Note the discussion of the manipulation of language -- "new pastoral care" to affirm homosexuality and Communion for those in invalid marriages is compared to the distortion of Vatican II by alluding to the "spirit of the council." Bishop Schneider calls them "false words" and specifically identifies the strategies of Cardinal Kasper as "a lie."

Debi Vinnedge of Children of God for Life, a vaccine watchdog groups, points out that those who want mandatory vaccination say no new abortions will be necessary since existing stem lines can be used. This research proves that's simply not true.

Check where your children's vaccines are coming from. There is evidence that vaccines produced from aborted babies are linked to autism, lymphoma, and leukemia.
