A Practical Suggestion for the New Evangelization
"Go forth and teach all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spriit." Is that intimidating? I think so. But it doesn't have to be. We don't need to go out to the park, stand on our soapbox, and begin preaching (Unless we really feel called and have the skill to do it.). We can simply resolve to be the link between an evangelizer and the one who needs to hear the message.
Hmm...how does that work? Well, there's a wonderful organization called Lighthouse Catholic Media (LCM). Maybe you've seen their CDs in the back of churches in your diocese. Their CDs cover all sorts of spiritual subjects from many well-known evangelizers: Cardinal Francis Arinze, Jeff Cavins, Tim Staples, Dr. Bernard Nathanson, Peter Kreeft, Blessed Mother Teresa.
You can browse all their titles here. I can personally recommend 15 Things to Do in the Midst of Suffering. Most of us have experienced suffering first hand and if you haven't yet, you will. Knowing how to pick up that cross of suffering and being able to carry it without being crushed is crucial to our spiritual growth. Sharing these videos is a great way to evangelize your friends and family.
Lighthouse Catholic Resources (LCR), an affiliate of LCM offers evangelization CDs and programs to active duty military personnel and youth groups, They offer leadership programs as well. This is a relatively new apostolate with great potential to help Catholics increase knowledge of their faith and spread it to others. And isn't that our goal? To know and love God so we can serve Him and bring as many people to heaven as possible? The military program is the most developed aspect of LCR's with a free download of the month. Do you have a relative or friend serving in the military who might appreciate growing in the faith. Let them know about this program. And you can help to make free CDs available by supporting LCR's military program. Think of a young man or woman far from home, lonely, probably frightened -- what an opportunity to help them find the greatest source of strength and consolation, Our Blessed Lord.
I'm adding Lighthouse Catholic Resources to my list of charities. Let's learn more and more about or faith and pass it on!
