The Gun Control Faction Uses Charlie Kirk Murder to Push Their Agenda!

I fully expected it. 

The House Democrats hardly waited for a moment of silence to end honoring murder victim Turning Point USA president Charlie Kirk before they started hollering for gun control. That was after they shouted, "NO!" when Rep. Lauren Boebert called for a spoken prayer. How many leftists ridiculed prayer just days ago after the children were murdered in Minnesota? Remember when they nixed mentioning God in their party platform? Like columnist Joe Sobran always said, Democrats are the "evil party." They own that distinction more today than ever!

We Need More Thomas Sowell and Less Black Lives Matter

Yesterday I gave you Walter Williams as an antidote to BLM. Today I give you another economist and icon of common sense, Thomas Sowell. The first video is from 1986.



Even in 1986 Sowell was making it clear that the problems in economic disparity among the races have more to do with culture than color.

The Lynching in Ferguson

Things have come full circle since the old battle over segregation. The targets of police brutality during the Selma to Montgomery marches have joined the lynch mobs. After the Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson, blacks rushed to judgment declaring the police officer involved, Darren Wilson, a murderer who must be brought to justice. No trial, no evidence, just lynch the S.O.B.! Wilson, in fear for his life, has gone into hiding. As Thomas Sowell observed:

"I am so old that I can remember when most of the people promoting race hate were white.”

Thomas Sowell is one of my favorite commentators. He's honest, articulate, and....ironic as this quote illustrates. I found his quote at the end of an article about a white man, Joshua Chellew, beat up and left unconscious in a busy street by four black men. They walked away and he was hit by a car and killed. It happened in the midst of the Zimmerman trial, but I'll bet you haven't heard of this black on white crime. Al Sharpton sure isn't calling for a civil rights investigation to ensure the white man wasn't profiled and targeted because of his race. No...only whites can be guilty of racially motivated hate crimes. 

Now what if the races had been reversed and the three attackers were white and Chellew black. It would be front page news for weeks. But Joshua Chellew won't get even 15 minutes of fame. As the author of the article pointed out:

[I]f Chellew had been able to defend himself against one or all of [his assailants] he’d be the new George Zimmerman. We’d be seeing baby pictures of his attackers. Al Sharpton would be marching. Jay Carney would be filibustering away all questions about Obama’s latest race-baiting. MSNBC would be on full alert. 

But Chellew wasn’t able to defend himself. He probably deserved it, right? I mean, just look at him. You can’t get any whiter than that.

The Confident Ignorance of Barack Obama

I love Thomas Sowell. Here's a taste from the article:

Obama was already doctrinaire at a very early age — and ill-informed or misinformed on both history and economics. 

His statement in Dreams from MyFather about how white men went to Africa to “drag away the conquered in chains” betrays his ignorance of African history. 

The era of the Atlantic slave trade and the era of European conquests across the continent of Africa were different eras. During the era of the Atlantic slave trade, most of Africa was ruled by Africans, who sold some of their slaves to white men. 

European conquests in Africa had to wait until Europeans found some way to survive lethal African diseases, to which they lacked resistance. Only after medical science learned to deal with these diseases could the era of European conquests spread across sub-Saharan Africa. But the Atlantic slave trade was over by then. 

There was no reason why Barack Obama had to know this. But there was also no reason for him to be shooting off his mouth without knowing what he was talking about.... 

Barack Obama is one of those people who are often wrong but never in doubt. When he burst upon the national political scene as a presidential candidate in 2008, even some conservatives were impressed by his confidence. 

But confident ignorance is one of the most dangerous qualities in a leader of a nation. If he has the rhetorical skills to inspire others to have the same confidence in him, then you have the ingredients for national disaster.

Exactly! Especially when it's combined with arrogance and deliberate deceit. So here we are four years later with the doctrinaire deceiver continuing to sell his snake oil. God help us all if he wins a second term where, in the words of Spike Lee, he can "do whatever he wants."

The Bleak Legacy of "Progress"

Here's a taste of Sowell's critique of progressives Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson (both of whom were also supporters of the early eugenics movement to cleanse the race):

If this headstrong, busybody approach [to government] seems familiar because it is similar to what is happening today, that is because it is based on fundamentally the same vision, the same presumptions of superior wisdom, and the same kind of lofty rhetoric we hear today about “fairness.” Wilson even used the phrase “social justice.”

Woodrow Wilson also won a Nobel Prize for peace, like the current president — and it was just as undeserved. Wilson’s “war to end wars” in fact set the stage for an even bigger, bloodier and more devastating Second World War.But, then as now, those with noble-sounding rhetoric are seldom judged by what consequences actually follow. 

The same presumptions of superior wisdom and virtue behind the interventionism of Progressive Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson in the domestic economy also led them to be interventionists in other countries.Theodore Roosevelt was so determined that the United States should intervene against Spain’s suppression of an uprising in Cuba that he quit his post as Assistant Secretary of the Navy to organize his own private military force — called “Rough Riders” — to fight in what became the Spanish-American war.

The spark that set off this war was an explosion that destroyed an American battleship anchored in Havana harbor. There was no proof that Spain had anything to do with it, and a study decades later suggested that the explosion originated inside the ship itself. 

But Roosevelt and others were hot for intervention before the explosion, which simply gave them the excuse they needed to go to war against Spain, seizing Puerto Rico and the Philippines.

Some things never change. Progressives (i.e., big government supporters), no matter what their party, look for excuses to expand the reach of the tyrannical central government. They stand for the antithesis of what Thomas Jefferson expounded, a weak central government controlled by sovereign states. Here's what Jefferson wrote to a foreign correspondent years after he served as our third president:

But the true barriers of our liberty in this country are our State governments; and wisest conservative power ever contrived by man, is that of which our Revolution and present government found us possessed. Seventeen distinct States, amaalgamated into one as to their foreign concerns, but single and independent as to their internal administration. 

Well, it's a long time since our "independent" states sold out for the federal dollar. We need to do what we can to strengthen their role and help them once again become "barriers of our liberty" protecting us from the draconian reach of Big Brother. If you're not involved in local politics, you need to be.
