Catholic Scouts of St. George Will Be a Reality

If you want to see the progress being made on establishing the Catholic Scouts of St. George visit Taylor Marshall's website.

They've already tentatively picked a logo and a uniform shirt. They are busy working on a manual and they have nearly two thousand folks involved with the group including over 200 Eagle Scouts. But what I liked best reading about the vision was this lovely paragraph:
Please keep praying for the Scouts of Saint George. Just keep imagining the sight of forty boys sitting around the campfire praying the Rosary and singing Marian hymns. We will build this with God's grace.
As The Christophers say, "It's better to light one candle than to curse the darkness. Light a prayer candle for  the Catholic Scouts of St. George and remember them with Masses and rosaries. They hope to have hundreds of charter groups by September. Do you belong to a troop in a Catholic parish that might move out en masse?  Wouldn't that be lovely?

  1. St. Agnes in St. Paul, MN just announced they are disbanding their Boy scout troop. Details forthcoming. I hope all the parishes across the country do likewise.

  2. Good news, Terry. Thanks! That's three parishes I've heard of now. Fr. Lappe in Bremerton, WA at Our Lady Star of the Sea and Fr. Richard Perozich at St. Mary's in Escondido, CA have also publicly stated their parishes will dissociate from the BSA. Thank God there are still at least a handful of clergy with backbones. Hopefully many more will join them.

  3. It does not seem as if our Priest has the backbone. He will go along with the USCCB in what ever they decide. His challenge is that myself, the Scouting committee Chair and the entire scouting committee have already made our decision. He will either kick them out and bring in the SSG or he will need to replace the entire Youth Leadership. Its a small parish. I wish him luck.

  4. It does not appear that our priest will have the backbone. He will go along with whatever the USCCB says. (how many of them are gay?) He will not have a choice because our entire scouting committee will resign after the June meeting of the Bishops if he does not allow us to bring in the SSG.

  5. If you don't want to wait for the wheel to get reinvented again, you can always check out the fully Catholic Northstar Group: http://www.northstarexplorers.org/

  6. What about our own diocese of Arlington? Surely some of our pastors can be counted on to step forward and re-affiliate with the Scouts of Saint George! There is a Catholic Committee on Scouting for the Diocese of Arlington--we must make every effort to contact them and have them pressure the bishop to switch our scouts over to this wonderful new program

  7. Iam so exctied at the thought of forty boys sitting around the campfire saying the rosary and singing hymns in honor of Our Lady that I could wet myself. I am going to rush out to our parish church right now (St John's in Leesburg) and have a private holy hour asking for the grace that we might see this sort of Catholic glory springing up

  8. So far, nothing yet from the Boy Scouts at my parish (under the Archdiocese of Baltimore) in Maryland. Scouting activities are still being announced in the parish bulletin.
