Is the Diocese of Wheeling/Charleston Planning to Oppose Parental Rights?

This morning I received an email from Michael Hichborn of the Lepanto Institute describing how the Diocese of Wheeling/Charleston plans to join a lawsuit against the state over a bill giving parents the freedom to choose vaccinations for their children. If true, it's a shocking position! 

Does a Catholic Diocese have more rights over children than their parents? Not according to canon law.

Meanwhile, Mark Shea wrote on his blog at Patheos that anyone who doesn't just shut up and pray is "using" Alfie Evans, not caring about him. (I won't link to Shea's blog because I understand Patheos pays by click count -- Hmm...does that mean Shea "used" Alfie's controversial story as click bait?)

After taking a shot at Fr. Peter West of Priests for Life who decried the silence of the Left on what was happening to Alfie, Shea goes on to aim his verbal AK-15 rapid fire at the "right wing base." He characterizes people like me as crazies and nut jobs who "stampede" over the latest "panic du jour" being stirred up (not sure by whom). In transparency, in case you haven't noticed by what I write, I do consider myself both an orthodox, practicing Catholic and a conservative who hates the deconstruction of Western culture! Nevertheless, I didn't fit into many of his bullet points about conservatives. Earth to Mark, we are NOT all cut from the same cookie cutter.

A few observations: 

• They keep describing Alfie as "terminal" when they don't even have a diagnosis. We've known people with "degenerative brain conditions" who've lived for years. So what do they mean by "terminal?" Aren't we all "terminal?" Does anyone get out of this life alive?

WHERE IS QUEEN ELIZABETH? Doesn't Alfie deserve the same protection as the new royal grandson?

Would the new royal grandson be treated the same way Alfie is and receive the same neglect and efforts to delivery bring about his death?

During the agony in the U.K. over precious sick baby Charlie Gard, I kept thinking of the soup nazi on the TV comedy Seinfeld. Only the fight wasn't an on-going joke over a bowl of soup, but a real-life struggle over the life of a child and the parental rights of his mom and dad.

You can tell a lot about the philosophy of a person by the decisions he makes. There isn't much online about Nicholas Francis, the presiding high court judge who ruled over the Charlie Gard case. But he clearly has little regard for the Catholic teaching that parents are the primary decision makers over their children. Francis ruled in favor of the hospital's death wish every time the parents appeared in court.

Mind your own darn business! The public schools are doing a horrible job teaching the three Rs. so what are they doing instead? Monitoring lunches, teaching sex and drug ed, banning dodge ball, and interfering in families' lives at every level. (Did you hear about the dad who got hell from the school because he and his wife took their third grade twins out of school for a long weekend (three days!) for the Boston marathon and to do the Freedom trail? Good grief!)

BUTT OUT!

Unfortunately, monitoring lunches isn't the worst these folks are doing. They think it's okay to dispense contraceptives and chemical abortion pills to youngsters without parental consent and even take kids to abortion mills. In New York City, schools give kids contraceptives without parental consent. It is an opt out program, but how many parents are even aware of it? Of course, if their daughters end up in the emergency room, the schools won't be the ones taking responsibility for the damage.

More and more public policies usurp the authority of parents and place it in the hands of teachers and administrators, some of whom don't even know the kids. In 2014, a report out of Georgetown University (!) recommended explicit sex education to minors as young as 10 while their opinions are still "malleable." The attitude toward parents in this report is insulting and sickening! It's the schools and the experts who should discuss sensitive issues with children; parents are ill equipped and need to be bypassed.

Every time I read something like this, I am more and more convinced that parents who are able would be well-advised to home school. If you don't want your children trained in lust and groupthink before they can even reach the second shelf in your kitchen cabinet, keep them at home.

Perverts at Planned Parenthood's Next Target: the Children!

Sex in the Playpen  That's what the sickos at Planned Parenthood want, and they're outlining it in a power point presentation called Exclaim! Young People's Guide to 'Sexual Rights: An IPPF declaration'. They call it "a world of possibilities" where "sexuality and sexual pleasure are important for young people," where children have the "right to autonomy...before the law." Get 'em hooked on sex early and their abortion business will never dry up!

And here's how Planned Parenthood sees children:

Young people are sexual beings. They have sexual needs, desires, fantasies, and dreams. It's important for all young people around the world to be able to explore, experience, and express their sexualities [plural to include LGBT "genders"] in healthy, positive, pleasurable and safe ways.  This can only happen when young people's sexual rights are guaranteed.... 

All young people are entitled to sexual well-being and pleasure whether or not they want to have children. [Note the separation of sex from procreation.]

Some people think parents are completely irrelevant. They're the same folks (often politicians or government bureaucrats) who want to give kids birth control and abortions without parental consent. If kids are injured from these things, hospital emergency rooms won't treat them without Mom or Dad's consent (and their insurance card). But when it comes to decisions about having sex and dealing with its consequences...well...parents can just buzz off and bug out!

What do you think? I a 12-year-old mature enough to consent to the Gardisil vaccine? And if she is, does this effectively lower the age of consent to 12? And if it does, does that mean kids at age 12 can legally consent to sex with an adult with no consequences for the adult?

The culture is moving in that direction and this is one more step toward the total corruption of children and the decriminalization of abuse. What could be more abusive than injecting kids, without their parents knowledge or consent, with a serious drug that can leave them permanently damaged or dead?

The U.N. reflects "world imperialism that despises the poor" says Argentine Archbishop

A South American bishop has seen the enemy and it's the United Nations. Archbishop Hector Aguer of La Plata, Argentina says by promoting abortion and homosexuality the U.N. and its "satellite organizations" (like Planned Parenthood) are working to “shift paradigms of behavior and alter the definition of what real human rights are.”

Who's behind the wicked agenda? The Archbishop sees international powers who "despise the poor." He expressed his opinion in his weekly reflection on the television channel, America TV, as reported by Fides news service:

"We should be aware that here there is a conspiracy in the worst sense of the word. There is a plot to homogenize thinking and behavior in the world and it comes from the world's power centers. In particular, it comes from the centers of political power, supported by the centers of financial power. We are witnessing a new colonialism, a new imperialism....

"There are many problems to be solved in Argentina! For example, poor pensioners, who are always marginalized, who will never have the pension they deserve, and the large number of young people without work or study, and internal migration that leads to new settlements in subhuman conditions, increasing poverty, insecurity ... Regarding this, we see that the state cannot fully protect the lives and property of the population, but it takes time to rebuild the civil code, the penal code, and to impose these new paradigms that are but the tip of the iceberg of a new colonialism, a world imperialism that despises the poor in particular....

"[I]n the name of human rights, the United Nations - which should be entrusted with their care – instead becomes a transgressor of natural law. This occurs because for many years now, these centers of global power have had ideologies contrary to the nature of the human person and, therefore, contrary to their dignity, rights, and corresponding duties, imposed on them."

Archbishop Aguer sees the matter more clearly than do many U.S. bishops. The U.N. is probably the greatest enemy of the family in the world creating international documents that promote "reproductive rights" (newspeak for promoting abortion and contraception), replace parental rights with the authority of the state (U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child), and advance homosexual activity as a protected "civil right." The U.N. is so immersed in evil it reminds me of C.S. Lewis' evil bureaucracy, NICE, in That Hideous Strength. 

And who is the major financier of all the evil at the U.N.? The American taxpayer. The U.S. is the largest contributor to the U.N. and its affiliated organizations providing about 22% of its budget. The actual amount is difficult to pin down because so many agencies underwrite U.N. programs. For example the Department of Health and Human Services contributes to UNICEF and the Department of Energy contributes to the U.N.'s International Atomic Energy Agency.

Trying to identify the actual budget impact of U.N. funding, Sen. Tom Coburn in 2006 asked the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for the real amount totals from 2001-2005. It was considerably more than what was reported by the State Department. The figures presented were:

•  2001 - $3,183,166,000
•  2002 - $3,934,814,000
•  2003 -  $3,841,323,000
•  2004 - $4,115,155,000 
•  2005 - $5,327,276,000

One of the good things President George W. Bush did was to cut off funding for the U.N. population control agency because of their support for China's forced abortion program. Otherwise totals in some years would have been even higher.

In fiscal year 2009 OMB's annual report  listed U.N. funding at  $6,347,415,000. So in only nine years the U.S. contribution to the U.N. has almost doubled. The number of jobs at the U.N. increased by about 40% during that time as well. In view of the fact that the U.N. spends so much time and money: undermining the sovereignty of nations, challenging parental rights over the upbringing and education of their children, supporting moral abominations like coerced abortion, and draconian population control programs, and violating the moral and religious values of independent nations, isn't it time for taxpayers to challenge U.S. funding of this evil bureaucracy?

If you want to find out for yourself what the U.N. is up to, subscribe to the Friday Fax of the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute (C-FAM). C-Fam's mission is "To defend life and family at international institutions and to publicize the debate." They have done a masterful job with a tiny staff of exposing the evil agenda at the U.N. that not only fails to protect the individual but works for his destruction, especially the most helpless little ones in the womb.

The Heritage Foundation also says it's Time to Rein in the U.N.'s Budget.  They propose that the Administration and Congress:

• Announce that the U.S. is returning to the principle of zero real growth in the U.N. regular budget, 

• Identify key reforms to improve budgetary constraint and insist that the U.N. adopt and implement them,  

• Demand that large donors be given more influence over U.N. budgetary decisions and restore legislative withholding if the U.N. fails to adopt changes to that effect, and 

• Demand increased transparency and accountability at the U.N.

These things sound reasonable and like a preliminary move toward reining in this out-of-control liberal monster. Something must be done. Archbishop Aguer is right about the United Nations as it is today, a tool of powerful interests who are promoting an ugly new world order that destroys the rights of the individual and "despises the poor." That moral and religious people are forced to pay for it with our taxes as it undermines our rights is an injustice that must be addressed.

Erosion of Parental Rights

I'm working on an article for the next issue of the Les Femmes newsletter on the erosion of parental rights. More and more government is taking control of what should be family decisions about the education and health of children. When you read articles about children being taken for abortions by teachers, given flu shots by the school nurse, indoctrinated in homosexuality, etc. without the knowledge or consent of parents, you know something is drastically wrong. When you read about a doctor refusing to release the medical data about a minor child's care without the child's consent, again -- something is drastically wrong. It's time for parents to fight back.

The Coercion of Evil

You're a dad. You don't want your children exposed to sex education that promotes fornication, contraception, abortion, and sodomy. You refuse to allow your children to participate in a play called "My Body Belongs to Me" that teaches children how to have sexual intercourse.

What happens? Well, if you live in Germany you're arrested and thrown in jail which is exactly what happened to eight German fathers. Here's an excerpt from an article by a German parents' rights group:

Christians in Germany have faced enormous persecution from the German government for removing their children from the German public schools, either through homeschooling - an illegal act according to a law instituted during the Third Reich - or taking them out of select classes they deem harmful to their Christian values, which is also illegal.

The fact that these children often outperform their counterparts in state schools has little bearing on the matter for Germany; the government's stated public policy is to suppress the existence of Parallelgesellschaften or "parallel societies" based on "separate philosophical convictions" through the education system.

The Youth Welfare Office or Jugendamt - an institution similar to Child Protective Services - acts as the government's chief intervening instrument, and when prison and fines do not bend Christian families into compliance, they recommend that these Christians lose parental custody of their children.

In one case, the Jugendamt, accompanied by 15 heavily armed police, forcibly seized 15 year-old Melissa Busekros in the dead of night from her family in 2007 against her will. However, legal intervention ensured that Busekros was legally permitted to return to her family upon turning 16.

It's clear that in Germany the children belong to the state. The fact that the law banning homeschooling originated under Hitler is chilling. All homeschooling families are in danger of having their children taken from them. Read more here.

This is one more example of the coercion evil, in this case the murder of innocence. No disagreement will be tolerated. The children must be perverted and if parents have to be imprisoned and families ripped apart to do it, too bad.

Who is the Primary Educator of Children in England?

The Home School Legal Defense Association has been warning for years that the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) threatens the rights of parents, particularly with regard to home schooling. It's no longer a threat, the results are proving to be exactly the nightmare predicted.

According to the Children's Rights Alliance for England, by signing the treaty, "The UK Government agreed to make all laws, policy and practice compatible with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child when it ratified it on 16 December 1991 (though it registered some reservations). As international law, the Convention is meant to be followed and should be referred to by courts, tribunals and other administrative processes when making decisions that affect children."

What does that mean for home schoolers in England?

A report to the Secretary of State on home schooling, Review of Elective Home Education in England, was issued this month. Among its recommendations are:

--mandatory registration with the Department of Children, Schools, and Families (DCSF) renewed annually

--oversight by local DCSF administrators including the right to enter the home and interview each child alone

--DCSF to determine what constitutes a “suitable” and “efficient” education

--That local authorities "where appropriate commission the monitoring and support of home education"

--"That parents be required to allow the child through exhibition or other means to
demonstrate both attainment and progress in accord with the statement of intent lodged at the time of registration"

--That authorities "should regard the move to home education as a trigger to conduct a review and satisfy themselves that the potentially changed complexity of education provided at home, still constitutes a suitable education."

The report pays lip service to the rights of parents as primary educators, but shows a distrust of their judgment which is replaced by educational bureaucrats. There is also an underlying assumption that home schooling is, at least in a minority of cases, a screen for child abuse so ALL parents must be closely monitored in order to safeguard children. The report provides no evidence for the assumption.

The report makes it clear that one goal is to ensure government access to the child by law:

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) gives children and young people over forty substantive rights which include the right to express their views freely, the right to be heard in any legal or administrative matters that affect them and the right to seek, receive and impart information and ideas. Article 12 makes clear the responsibility of signatories to give children a voice:
'Parties shall assure to the child who is capable of forming his or her own views the right to express those views freely in all matters affecting the child, the views of the child being given due weight in accordance with the age and maturity of the child.' Yet under the current legislation and guidance, local authorities have no right of access to the child to determine or ascertain such views.

The report calls for "balancing" the rights of parents and children. In other words, create laws that allow the government to invade the home without cause or due process, for no other reason than that the family has chosen to withdraw their children from government schools and teach then at home.

Interestingly, the report begins with this quote:

The need to choose, to sacrifice
some ultimate values to others,
turns out to be a permanent
characteristic of the human
predicament

The quote is false on its face. If a value is "ultimate," i.e., fundamental, it cannot be sacrificed to another equally-fundamental value. That's why the mother in the Old Testament urged her seven sons to die as martyrs rather than apostatize. All of the martyrs in the Church have refused to sacrifice a fundamental value, their faith, in order to save their lives. But this lie is the basis of the report.

Much of the language is benign and some recommendations offer the carrot that allows children to enroll in school programs such as sports and music, but overall the report recommends a government grab of parental rights that gives bureaucrats control over the family, particularly children's education.

Do Schools Own Our Kids?

Kids can be nasty to each other. When they are you don't expect a school counselor to be even nastier. But that's what happened at Seven Hills Middle School in Nevada, CA when Steve Davis heard a rumor that a 12 year old student was pregnant. He gave her a pregnancy test without her parents knowledge or permission embarrassing the child and enraging her parents. The parents are suing; the school superintendent says it's no big deal. What I want to know is what the school counselor planned to do if the pregnancy test was positive - get her teacher to give her a failing grade in sex ed?...take her for an abortion?...arrange remedial sex ed for the class?... bring in extra condoms and bananas for more practice? What exactly did he have in mind? Makes one wonder what takes place at counselor in-service training. On the other hand, considering the fact that California is the porn capitol of the world, maybe we don't want to know. Read more...
