Two priests respond to Fr. Peter Stravinskas about home schooling

  1. It might be worth noting what Bishop Sheen said of Catholic Colleges at the 51st Eucharistic Congress in 1976. I paraphrase but basically it was "Send your children to secular colleges where they will have to defend their faith and not to Catholic Colleges where their faith will be taken from them."

The reality today is that most Catholic education isn't Catholic and indeed, isn't education. It is instead indoctrination in politically correct decadent culture and even basic skills and knowledge are neglected. Cathechesis is abysmal both in accuracy and scope. It is tragic, but most Catholics no longer know very much about their faith.

  2. Fr. Peter Straviskas is wrong in his criticism of home schooling. Many if not most of today's teachers in Catholic schools do not know the truths of their Faith if they indeed are Catholic at all
and informed Catholic parents know that what is being passed as Catholic teachings in these schools is tainted with the "new theology" which is tainted with 'modernism' and other heresies. Parents who know the difference shudder at what is now passed as Catholicism and will go the distance to see that their kids learn the true Faith as it has been passed down to us from the apostles and the Fathers of the Church. This goes for so called Catholic colleges as well as the lower grades. The 60's brought about radical change to the secular society and churchmen opened the doors to it. Rather than bringing the Faith to the culture, many priests and bishops invited the culture into the Faith. GK Chesterton wrote: "We do not want a Church that will move with the world. We want a Church that will move the world". The problem is that our priests are not up to the job of teaching the Catholic Faith. They don't believe it themselves!
