Friends of Frank -- Tell God to take a hike and mind His own business! We've got things under control. |
By Chriss Rainey
"Frank is a die-hard Democrat. He said even if Jesus ran against a Democrat, he would not vote
for Him.”"Frank is a die-hard Democrat. He said even if Jesus ran against a Democrat, he would not vote
This quote above is from a friend of mine who knows Frank. He occasionally plays the piano at a northern Virginia church where my friend and I used to belong. When I read this quote, I was honestly thrown back on my heels and it took me a minute to digest it. It's possible, I suppose, that he was only trying to make a point, but that's a pretty drastic position to take even in the heat of an argument. I can't imagine I would ever put a candidate sight unseen before Jesus simply because of his or her party affiliation.
If we assume Frank meant what he said and stands by it, then he believes it doesn't matter who, only that they run with a "D" by their name. What a shame he doesn't have that same kind of loyalty and affection for the Roman Catholic Church, an affection that places the time honored truth of Church doctrine above all else in our lives.
What would bring such devotion to a political party, a devotion so strong it would trump (no Trump pun intended) his own free will and responsibility to discern right from wrong? It is a devotion without reason. It is a loyalty seldom seen outside of countries like North Korea or the People's Republic of China where people have undergone rigorous brainwashing and decades of deprivation and conditioning to accept what they are told, no questions asked.
To be sure, Frank is not alone. I'd dare to say the majority of the membership of my former church would agree with him, judging from the number of Clinton bumper stickers seen on their cars in the church parking lot. No one who chooses to support the platform of the Democrat party these days can be loyal to that party and at the same time loyal to their faith.
It is interesting to see exactly what Democrats stand for. The following quotes are from the 2016 Platform of the Democrat Party. I include my own comments below each quote.
Platform: Fixing Our Broken Campaign Finance System -- Democrats support a constitutional amendment to overturn the Supreme Court’s decisions in Citizens United and Buckley v. Valeo. We need to end secret, unaccountable money in politics by requiring, through executive order or legislation, significantly more disclosure and transparency—by outside groups, federal contractors, and public corporations to their shareholders. (p.25)
My comment: Isn't it interesting how the Democrats strongly believe that all Supreme Court decisions they like are "settled law" and that it is beyond the pale to suggest any be overturned---such as Roe v. Wade?
Platform: Appointing Judges -- We will appoint judges who defend the constitutional principles of liberty and equality for all, and will protect a woman’s right to safe and legal abortion.......................
My comment: It is hard to express the contradictions in this statement above, but for starters, judges don't , or aren't supposed to make law. They are to defend the Constitution against Legislative Branch abuse. But in this case we see Democrats suggesting that judges will create a right not found in the Constitution which in fact denies the most basic right of us all---life. Abortion may be legal, but it is never ever safe for the infant involved who is deprived of all rights.
Platform: Securing Reproductive Health, Rights, and Justice -- Democrats are committed to protecting and advancing reproductive health, rights, and justice. We believe unequivocally, like the majority of Americans, that every woman should have access to quality reproductive health care services, including safe and legal abortion....We believe that reproductive health is core to women’s, men’s, and young people’s health and wellbeing....We will defend the ACA (Affordable Care Act), which extends affordable preventive health care to women, including no cost contraception, and prohibits discrimination in health care based on gender.
We recognize that quality, affordable comprehensive health care, evidence-based sex education and a full range of family planning services help reduce the number of unintended pregnancies and thereby also reduce the need for abortions. (p.37)
My Comment: Notice how the term "health care" which sounds so harmless is used to describe something so violent that it ends a life? How is that healthy? Or caring? And to say that the genital health of our young people is the core to their well being is outrageous. You would think if we addressed lust and passion first in the lives of our post pubescent children the world would be a better place. Not for Democrats: Hand out the contraceptives and hope for the best. There is a false premise that fornication is as natural as urination and a right, a government protected right. I do realize that many think this way, but it is in no way within the bounds of Catholic teaching.
Platform: We will support sexual and reproductive health and rights around the globe. -- In addition to expanding the availability of affordable family planning information and contraceptive supplies, we believe that safe abortion must be part of comprehensive maternal and women’s health care and included as part of America’s global health programming. Therefore, we support the repeal of harmful restrictions that obstruct women’s access to health care information and services, including the “global gag rule” and the Helms Amendment that bars American assistance to provide safe, legal abortion throughout the developing world. (p.46)
My comment: Not content to corrupt Americans, they want to spread the evil worldwide and long to overturn more laws that stand in their way.
Platform: Religious Minorities -- We are horrified by ISIS’ genocide and sexual enslavement of Christians and Yezidis and crimes against humanity against Muslims and others in the Middle East. We will do everything we can to protect religious minorities and the fundamental right of freedom of religion. (p.47)
My comment: How clever they are to place the genocide of Christians in the same sentence with Muslim victims of crimes---whatever they might be, we don't know. They boldly suggest they will protect freedom of religion, but we know very well that isn't true if you happen to bake cakes or employee people that qualify for contraception-inclusive health plans.
Platform: HIV and AIDS -- Democrats believe an AIDS-free generation is within our grasp. But today far too many Americans living with HIV are without access to quality care and too many new infections occur each year. That is why we will implement the National HIV and AIDS Strategy; increase research funding for the National Institutes of Health; cap pharmaceutical expenses for people living with HIV and AIDS; reform HIV criminalization laws; and expand access for harm reduction programs and HIV prevention medications, particularly for the populations most at risk of infection. Abroad, we will continue our commitment to the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief and increase global funding for HIV and AIDS prevention and treatment. Democrats will always protect those living with HIV and AIDS from stigma and discrimination. (p.48)
My comment: They seem to know which populations are at risk, but Democrats want you to believe their behavior is protected even though we know it is sinful, and deadly. They also want to extend your tax dollars in other countries to those suffering from the same habits of fornication, adultery, and sodomy.
Many other positions in the Democrat Platform offend me as a conservative, but they are problems of economics that have less impact on the Church. How to deal with college debt, for instance. To focus on the issues of life which are in fact few in a document so large may seem petty, but we should never forget the expression that the "devil is in the details."
It isn't the broad scope of what Democrats stand for but the essential moral issues which in fact affect society at large. When there is no recognition that chastity and faithfulness within marriage has value, when murder is the solution for a one night rendezvous or a long term abuse of the marital act, then society has come to the same edge of the cliff that Gomorrah faced. If the people IN the Church won't stand against these things, what hope is there? For so many who "frequent Catholic churches"---such as Tim Kaine, Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, John Kerry, and others to say they support this platform is clearly offensive to all Catholics. When they or other Democrats, like Frank, cling so strongly to these beliefs repeatedly and in public, and refuse under any circumstance, even for Jesus himself, they put themselves at risk of eternal damnation. They don't deserve the name Catholic and as St. Paul has suggested, they should be purged from among us.
What business is it of mine to judge outsiders? Is it not those inside the community you must judge? God will judge the others. "Expel the wicked man from your midst." 1 Corinthians 5:13
