Our job as Catholics: To implement Luke 17:21 -- "The Kingdom of God is in the midst of you."

Rush Limbaugh jokes about "low information voters." We've all seen videos of (presumable) voters who talk about Obama paying for free goodies out of his "stash." And then there are the on-campus interviews of college students who can't name a single Founding Father, but can tell you minute details about Beyonce. We're in trouble, folks.

Which is one reason I was excited to receive an email from a friend in Front Royal, VA describing an initiative he and several friends are spearheading: The Front Royal Catholics Civic Education Group. they have a website and Facebook page.

Remember that word civics? We studied it in late elementary school. Here's how Wiki defines civics:
Civics is the study of the theoretical and practical aspects of citizenship, its rights and duties; the duties of citizens to each other as members of a political body and to the government.[1] It includes the study of civil law and civil code, and the study of government with attention to the role of citizens ― as opposed to external factors ― in the operation and oversight of government.
The tyrant king ruling his serfs
I remember the graphic in my textbook showing how government works in the form of building blocks that construct society. It was a pyramid with the family on the bottom, the local community, the city/town, the state, the country - at least that's how I remember it. I'm using a graphic from the
Middle Ages that shows how feudalism worked, with the peasants at the bottom building up to the king on the top. Why choose that graphic? Because that's pretty much how the elites see us today -- the bottom 99% are just wage-slave, taxpaying serfs to feed the liberals' global agendas and keep them in power. Except only about half of the serfs are doing all the work. The rest are lying around the urban (and suburban) jungle waiting for the working serfs to bring them free stuff from "Obama's stash."

But I digress. The goal of the Civics group is to educate Catholics in how government works and to impact government at the local town level and beyond.  Here's what they write about their mission:
The mission of the Front Royal Catholics Civic Education Group (the Group) is to increase the civic education and civic participation of individual Front Royal Catholics in events and on issues ranging from the local to the national. The goal of the Group is for individuals -- not the Group -- to become effective promoters and defenders of the Catholic interests....
This is a new and experimental organization. Group organizers Tom McFadden, Sr., John Lundberg, and Tony Rozanski will get the Group “off the ground.” They invite enthusiastic and willing persons to join the Group and help form and lead a “consensus team” that will select speakers/DVD presentations and determine issues to address on the Group’s website.
I invite my readers to pray for the success of this group. Think of how the liberals use the Industrial Areas Foundation to foment Alynsky's immoral, manipulative vision through groups all over the country. PICO, GAMALIEL, and similar IAF-affiliated groups specifically target faith communities manipulating them to give them more power to use blackmail to achieve their socialist goals. Isn't it high time we, as Catholics, organized using morally upright methods to promote the kingdom of God among us?

I plan to join the group even though I don't live in Front Royal. What a blessing if every little town in the country had a Catholic civics group educating citizens on the principle of subsidiarity and explaining how to make their communities healthy, happy, and ethical places to live. Let's build it!

"...nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There!’ for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.” Luke 17:21
